Netflix series Mindhunter comes back for season 2 on August 16. Here’s what we know so far!

Mindhunter has been a pretty big hit for Netflix, and why wouldn’t it be? True crime has always been fascinating, and the dark details are of interest to people in general. Season 2 of Mindhunter‘s trailer hints at the creepiness in store.

Based on the trailer, a few things are clear already. For starters, Mindhunter doesn’t shy away from enhancing scares, utilizing the song Night Shift by Siouxsie & the Banshees with snippets of creepy, harrowing scenes from the upcoming season. It’s also obvious that some lady’s coming home to an unpleasant surprise. The question is, what kind of scene is awaiting her in that bathroom? There are also a few simple things the trailer lets us in on.

The season will focus on the Atlanta Child Murders, which have long been blamed on Wayne Williams. That will be a complicated case.  Since day one, some have challenged Williams’ guilt. In fact, he’s technically not in prison for the child murders, but for the deaths of two adults (Similarly some say Charles Manson wasn’t truly at fault for the Tate-LaBianca murders).

What else to expect

In addition to the return of Cameron Britton as serial killer Ed Kemper, we see quick glimpses of Damon Herriman as Charles Manson. Also, Sonny Valicenti appears as “ADT serviceman.” True crime aficionados will recognize his character as the BTK killer. In fact, some of BTK’s so-called “hit kit” can be seen in the trailer, including a creepy mask (nightmarish photos of which can be found online!).

We also see someone who is undeniably playing David Berkowitz or the Son of Sam. While the actor’s name doesn’t appear on the IMDb page of Mindhunter, Deadline mentions the name Michael Cerveris in a recent article on season 2. Could Cerveris be the one playing Berkowitz? Most likely, as his Wikipedia page photo looks similar to the actor who plays Son of Sam in the trailer.

Some season 2 facts

There will be 9 new episodes of Mindhunter for season 2, which makes it technically a shorter season (at least by sheer episode number). It’s also known that Season 2 will feature Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), and Wendy Carr (Anna Torv), along with Joe Tuttle, Albert Jones, Stacey Roca, Lauren Glazier, Sierra McClain, and the aforementioned Michael Cerveris.
