Titans Season Two: DC Universe releases first look trailer
By Monita Mohan
DC Universe has released the first trailer for Titans season two, and it’s packed full of fan-favorite superheroes dressed in comic-accurate costumes.
It’s here! Exactly a month prior to its release, DC Universe has dropped the trailer for the second season of Titans. After an inconsistent start last year, Titans found its legs and left viewers on a massive cliff-hanger in its season one finale episode.
The trailer for Titans season two is infused with an optimistic vibe, something that was clearly missing from the initial season one trailer. We meet the entire Titans team, including several new characters who will be introduced over the course of the season.
From the trailer, it looks like Dick Grayson has officially formed Team Titans, and they’re making a name for themselves as heroes, not sidekicks. There’s a mix of older and younger characters in the trailer – Aqualad, Wonder Girl, Hawk, and Dove are seen fighting alongside Grayson’s Robin. But we also see Raven talking about whether the team should call themselves: ‘Titans 2.0’. So, what does this all mean for the heroes?

When last we saw the titular team, they were in disarray. As a last resort to save Garfield Logan/ Beast Boy’s life, Rachel Roth/ Raven had opened the portal to allow her father, Trigon, to enter Earth. The powerful demon had then possessed Dick Grayson, in the hopes of coaxing Rachel into joining him and his cult. Kory Anders/ Starfire and Donna Troy/ Wonder Girl had attempted to reach Rachel and Dick but were barred by some kind of spell by Trigon. Elsewhere, Hank Hall/ Hawk was looking after Dawn Granger/ Dove, who was recovering from being thrown off a roof – they were supposed to look for Jason Todd/ Robin 2.0.
The season two trailer suggests that the team successfully defeated Trigon and are going about their business as a team of heroes. Or are these scenes all part of Trigon’s elaborate hallucinations?
The Titans trailer goes out of its way to whet fans’ appetites with so many characters, almost all of whom are dressed in comic book accurate costumes. But should we believe everything we see? Dick Grayson appearing as Robin is a dead give away that those scenes are flashbacks of the original Titans team. Could Dick and Rachel’s other interactions in the trailer mean they are still under Trigon’s sway? Given that part of the Trigon storyline still remains to be wrapped up in season two, it wouldn’t be a surprise if some part of the trailer is all a dream.
Despite its up and many downs, Titans is an exciting superhero show that brings together fan-favorite characters. The trailer gives us our first look at Chella Man’s Jericho, Chelsea Zhang’s Ravager, Joshua Orpin’s Superboy, as well as Iain Glen’s Bruce Wayne, and Esai Morales’ Deathstroke in full costume.
Will the show wilt under the weight of its expansive cast, or will cameos suffice to give Titans the comic book feel the fans are craving? We will find out when the second season airs on DC Universe on September 6.
