Did June just get away with murder on The Handmaid’s Tale? That would be a yes.

The Handmaid’s Tale just channeled ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder in the strangest of ways. In last week’s episode, June took it upon herself to take Commander Winslow’s life, and I can’t say that he didn’t have it coming. His final moments of trying to be a forceful asshole didn’t last long thanks to June, and now it seems she might have gotten away with it all.

How so? Well, with the Waterfords under Canadian custody, the “disappearance” of Commander Winslow doesn’t seem too odd. As far as everyone else thinks, he’s just been captured. There is no one looking at June or anyone else for that matter, and that is how June turned into Annalise Keating this week.

The look on June’s face when she realizes that only has she gotten away with murder, but Commander Waterford will be tried as a war criminal, is priceless. I don’t think she’s ever felt as much joy as she did at that moment. With a lot of the major obstacles out of the way, June can focus on her master plan—getting the kids out.

So the plan is this: the Marthas will gather the kids and bring them to the designated house, and from there, Commander Lawrence will ensure they make it onto the plane. There’s a bit of a stressful moment back at the Lawrence household, however, when Commander Winslow’s wife shows up mourning her missing husband.

Mrs. Winslow is worried about the family she has to take care of in light of her husband’s disappearance, and without much thought, Eleanor says that they can take the kids with them. Oh, goodness! Someone stop her! Luckily, Commander Lawrence is able to manipulate that conversation to imply that Eleanor meant bringing some of the kids over to their house. Phew, close call.

Given everything that’s happening on The Handmaid’s Tale, Gilead decides they are going to just shut down the border. No one in, no one out. This presents a problem for the whole “let’s take 52 children and escape” plan so Commander Lawrence suggests moving the date up. If this was a normal world, sure, but unfortunately, they’re in Gilead, and that won’t fly there.

In the midst of this, Eleanor gets rattled up and says she will go and retrieve each child, even if it means going to each of their houses. June manages to get her to cool down but we learn not long after that, Mrs. Lawrence has died as a result of overdosing on her sleeping pills. Well, that is going to complicate things.

Back in Canada, Fred and Serena briefly reunite until Fred realizes that Serena has screwed him over in order to be closer to her daughter. Thank goodness Serena didn’t end up being a dud. The Handmaid’s Tale finally did something right with her character this season. This is the badass we’ve been waiting for!

Moira and Luke eventually show up as Moira takes Nichole to see Serena, and Luke goes to speak with Fred. Neither of the conversations goes well, but shout-out to Moira and Luke for handling their business and shutting down any Gilead talk. The time for messing around is over.
