Netflix bolsters its YA slate with Ginny & Georgia order.

The streaming service is officially moving forward with this mother-daughter drama! Deadline reports Netflix has given a ten episode order to the new series, Ginny & Georgia, from Debra Fischer and Sarah Lampert.

Ginny & Georgia is focused on the relationship between young mother Georgia and her wise beyond her years daughter, Ginny. The family settles down in a picturesque and wealthy New England town where Georgia tries to be the best mother despite her past and Ginny navigates high school and love.

Brianne Howey (The Passage) takes on the role of Georgia. According to the character description, she’s manipulative and charming since that’s what it took to survive. She had her daughter at 15 and managed to become financially stable despite her tough past.

Newcomer Antonia Gentry plays Ginny who seems to be a quick-witted rebel with a heart of gold. However, she struggles to adapt to New England despite becoming immediately popular.

Diesel La Torraca (Little Monsters) is Georgia’s youngest child and he’s considered “sweet, innocent, and perpetually unkempt”. By the sounds of it, he’ll love his new home a bit faster than his sister will.

Jennifer Robertson (Schitt’s Creek) is the hard-working Ellen who lives across the street and seems to be the most relatable member of the community for Ginny and Georgia. Her 15 year old twins, Marcus (Happy Together‘s Felix Mallard) and Maxine (Degrassi: Next Class‘ Sara Waisglass) give her plenty of trouble to deal with. Marcus is the resident bad boy who takes an immediate interest in Ginny while his sister Maxine is the beacon of popularity. Apparently she has a crush on Georgia which might make her friendship with Ginny a bit awkward.

Finally, it looks like Georgia’s potential suitors are Mayor Paul Randolph (Friday Night Lights‘ Scott Porter) and Joe (Narcos‘ Raymond Ablack). Randolph is young handsome politician who appreciates Georgia’s drive while Joe is the local cafe owner who is “manly”.

Debra Fischer will be the showrunner for Ginny & Georgia while Sara Lampert is credited as the creator and script writer. Anya Adams (GLOW) is expected to direct the first two episodes but it’s unclear if she’ll be brought on to do more.
