Fear The Walking Dead season 5, episode 9 recap: Channel 4
By Ariba Bhuvad
Fear The Walking Dead gives us an…interesting season 5 midseason premiere.
Fear The Walking Dead changed it up as it kicked off its fifth midseason premiere. It wasn’t the typical episode and was shot through the “eyes” of Al’s ongoing documentary. After the miraculous plane landing in the midseason finale, the group is even more motivated to help others in any way they can, and that is exactly what they are doing.
There isn’t much to recap or report in terms of this week’s episode except for a couple of unexpected situations that caught the group off guard. This week’s “person in need” came in the form of a woman named Tess who called out for help. It turns out that she and her family hadn’t stepped foot outside of their home since this whole thing started.
The plot thickens as the group learns from Tess that her husband had left to get their son an inhaler and had yet to return home. When you’re in the world of Fear The Walking Dead, it’s pretty much a given if someone left and hasn’t returned, it’s not looking too great. And that assumption would stand true here because later in the episode, the group stumbles across someone’s belongings with…an inhaler inside of it.

Of course, Tess refuses to come to terms with this which leads to momentary chaos as the group learns that her house is surrounded by landmines, and Morgan has set his foot on one. It turns out that this is the one thing that can get Tess out of her home, who uses a pin to stop the landmine from blowing up Morgan into bits and pieces.
All’s well that ends well because after Morgan is rescued and Tess and her son step outside of their home after years, the group has a pad thai cookout. Yup, pad thai in the apocalypse–who would have thought.
As the episode came to a close, we learn that the video testimonials recorded throughout the episode serve as a way to convince others to help out. This is revealed as a new character that is watching the videos is introduced.
TVLine pointed this out in their recap, but it is literally the same thought I had when watching this scene. Where the heck did the means to play this video come from with electricity. Who knows, folks, who knows.
Presumably, this young man watches the video and sets out to find Morgan and the rest of the group when Logan and his group of lackeys show up with threats and all. Logan is under the impression that this young man knows where the oil fields are even after he insists he doesn’t know anything.
Before speeding off, Logan has his guys shoot up the guy’s bike and asks the guy to deliver a message to the group–they’re making enemies, not friends around these parts–and they should be careful. Whatever you say, Logan.
