Peaky Blinders season 5 Netflix premiere date and trailer
Peaky Blinders is set to return to the BBC later this month, but you’ll have to wait a bit longer to watch it on Netflix.
It’s been almost two years since Peaky Blinders wrapped up its fourth season on BBC Two. It’s finally set to return (on BBC One) later this month. It’s been a long wait. Unfortunately, if you live in the United States, that wait is going to be slightly longer because Peaky Blinders won’t hit Netflix until October of this year, according to a report from Deadline.
If you’re a binge-watcher, set your alarm for Oct. 4 at 12:01 a.m. PT. (Good luck to any East Coast fans who will be sitting around until 3 a.m. Eastern.)
A couple of key things to catch up on since the show left airwaves back in 2017. First, last year Deadline reported talks of a season 6 and 7. They say in their recent report that creator Steven Knight is working on writing season 6, even though it is yet to be ordered by the BBC.

- Lawmen: Bass Reeves season 1, episode 7 preview: Non-spoiler thoughts for Part VII
- Goosebumps season 1, episode 6 recap: “Night of the Living Dummy”
- Beacon 23 season 1, episode 3 recap: “Why Can’t We Go on as Three?”
- Upload season 3, episode 2 recap: “Strawberry”
But, come on, why wouldn’t the BBC order a season 6? The show moved from BBC Two to BBC One because it has been so successful. It won its first BAFTA for Best Drama in 2018—beating out Netflix’s The Crown, mind you.
Second thing to know, there’s a gorgeous trailer out and you should watch it. (Don’t worry, it’s below.)
In general, the series (loosely based on a real 19th century gang) follows the Shelby crime family in the years following World War I. Starring Drama Desk Award-winning actor, Cillian Murphy, Deadline reports that this season will start with the 1929 Wall Street crash and focus on its affect on the Shelby family.
Knight told Deadline that he’s using this moment in history to set up his planned sixth and seventh seasons.
“I think they’re being revealed a lot more emotionally and politically,” Murphy told Deadline. “And that’s quite exciting because you wouldn’t necessarily have attached those values of emotions to the political values or motions of the leader of a kind of violent street gang.”
Back to things you need to know, there are some new cast members for season five. Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split) and Sam Claflin (Me Before You, Adrift) headline the additions that include Brian Gleeson, Neil Maskell, Kate Dickie, Cosmo Jarvis and Emmett J. Scanlan.
There’s a lot of excitement building around the return of Peaky Blinders, including from Murphy. He told Deadline earlier this month that he thinks this will be the best season yet.
“You know, I remember saying that to journalists (about season 4) cause I really felt it, and it came to pass,” Murphy said. “I think the same is the case this year.”
