The Nevers: Six cast in Joss Whedon sci-fi series from HBO
Six actors have been cast in HBO’s The Nevers from Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The Nevers has added Kiran Sonia Sawar (Pure, Silent Witness), Elizabeth Berrington (In Bruges, Vanity Fair), Ella Smith (Ray & Liz, Cinderella), Viola Prettejohn (Counterpart, The Witcher), and Anna Devlin (All the Money in the World, The Witches) as series regulars, according to a report from Deadline. In addition, Martyn Ford (Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Final Score) will play a recurring role.
The science fiction drama centers on a group of Victorian-era women who discover they have strange abilities that bring them relentless enemies and a world-altering mission.
The new actors will star opposite series lead Laura Donnelly as well as Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Ben Chaplin, Pip Torrens, Nick Frost, Eleanor Tomlinson, and Denis O’Hare.

Sawar will depict the optimistic Harriet Kaur, a Scottish Sikh who lives in the Orphanage but is still accepted by her family and fiancée.
Berrington will play the poor, streetwise Lucy Best, another Orphanage resident whose tragic past is masked by her wit and spirit.
Smith will play Desirée Blodgett an increasingly popular whore with the power to make men share everything on their minds. While the power relieves her customers in more ways than one, what she’s heard could get her killed even though she often doesn’t listen. She is also a devoted mother to a mute 6-year-old son.
Prettejohn will portray Myrtle Hapslich who was rescued by the Orphanage from her middle-class family after developing powers that leave her unable to speak English or any other recognizable language.
Devlin will depict 16-year-old Primrose Chattoway, who wants to be ordinary but is ten feet tall.
Ford will play a henchman named Nicolas Perbal, also called Odium. He finds himself looking and smelling rather unpleasant due to a side-effect of his “turn.” He’ll do anything for money.
Whedon is co-writing The Nevers with Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie, who both also wrote for Buffy. Whedon will also direct the series and serve as showrunner.
The Nevers cast is becoming very large and boasts some interesting talent and characters. The descriptions of the show and its characters seem to point to a much more “adult” series than some of Whedon’s past work. It will be interesting to see how things continue to develop as the show moves forward.
