Season 2, episode 4 of Hulu’s Light as a Feather looks at the character’s abilities to forgive. Can they repair burnt bridges and address a life-threatening curse?

As we’ve seen previously on Light as a Feather, McKenna “Mack” Brady has been suffering pain, nightmares and blackouts since the Light as a Feather/Chrysalis curse was transferred to her from Violet Simmons (Haley Ramm).  The curse has been damaging Mack’s relationships, in addition to threatening lives. She recently broke up with Trey (Jordan Rodrigues) over her troubles, and he is now basically seeing his ex (and former bandmate), Sammi (Katelyn Nacon).

Meanwhile, Violet is continuing to fraternize with Isaac (Brent Rivera) — which is awkward because her cursed kiss previously placed him a coma. The question is, was it really her or the curse acting through her?

There is increasing evidence that, when someone has the curse, they begin acting differently. So is Violet honestly trying to help Isaac regain his memories, or does she have some other motive?

More from Show Snob

Of course, a bigger moment from episode 3 is the death of Ridge Reyes (Froy Gutierrez), which was exactly as Mack predicted in the game of Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board they had played. Another quirky thing is, Mack has no memory of playing that game, or of kissing Ridge, as witnessed by Sammi while on the community service construction site.

Another community service worker, Nadia (Kira Kosarin), was present at the game, and is freaked out by the coincidental death (and may feel Mack intentionally murdered Ridge). Although Mack initially rejects Violet’s help, she’s gradually being pushed into it.

Mack’s pal, Alex (Brianne Tju) confronts Violet, holding her responsible for Ridge’s death. However, Violet calls it an accident, although Alex definitely knows about the curse, and of Violet’s possible trickery.

Mack’s descent into dishonesty

McKenna seems to be in denial, and also confused. Nadia confronts her about another prediction: That Nadia will get into a fight and have her head bashed in. She disclosed more info about their game of Light as a Feather, including that it took place at Ridge’s lake house.

As they talk, Mack sees Nadia’s arm transform, giving her a scare. So, as she backs away from the conversation, Mack lies about the curse, saying she believes she may have been “roofied.” We all know it was the mind warping effects of the curse, however, and that Mack is unraveling psychologically.

Later, Sammi apologizes for kissing Trey, and he says they should “keep things about music.” However, when Mack confronts him about his gig with Sammi, he asks her what she’s even doing there (a strong hint that things are over for them). After this, Trey and Sammi kiss again, which is another strong signal to move on (especially when Mack admits that, although she doesn’t remember it, she must have kissed Ridge).

It’s perhaps ironic that, as Mack is being pushed away for things she doesn’t remember, Violet seems to remember kissing Isaac and is establishing a bond with him.

April, Alex and Peri

This episode of Light as a Feather focuses plenty on Alex, too, who is dealing with this madness along with the stress of a college admissions essay. She also accuses her sister April (Alisa Allapach) of screwing up her life up, particularly her budding relationship with Peri (Adriyan Rae).

Soon Nadia shows up to interrogate Alex as well, asking her what’s going on with all her dead pals (in so many words). Rather than say it was a cursed game, Alex just says it was coincidental accidents. However, Nadia says she played Light as a Feather with McKenna, and knows something weird’s going on.

When April tells Alex she’s leaving for a week soon (adding “Try not to O.D. or burn the house down”), Alex doesn’t even acknowledge the strain between them. Instead Alex asks to borrow April’s car. Sensing the urgency, April lets her do so, and Alex promptly leaves. In fact, April works on Alex’s college admissions essay as well.

Things are getting desperate for McKenna. After seeing Trey and Sammi kiss, she calls Violet for help. Meanwhile, Alex shows up to McKenna’s place, and Mack finally admits that she now has the curse. She shows Alex the freaky Chrysalis curse wound on her back. They hug, signifying that the two are no longer hostile to each other (at least for now). However, Nadia is spying on Alex and Mack from outside window, and she knows something weird’s going on as they discuss aspects of the curse. The question is, what can Nadia do about it? If nothing, it may mean her life is over.
