Everyone is overwhelmed in the penultimate episode of Young Justice: Outsiders. It’s time for several of the characters to find some much-needed closure.

It’s Valentine’s Day and things are looking good on Young Justice: Outsiders. The media report on the Justice League’s return to Earth with 316 meta-teens in tow. The Taos facility is overwhelmed with new inmates. Meanwhile, Cyborg is now a public figure, though his footage claiming Gretchen Goode’s real identity as the alien Granny Goodness is vehemently opposed by Goode Productions.

Artemis and Will Harper

Violet, Vic, and Garfield babysit Lian Harper, while Lian’s dad Will Harper finally makes his feelings for Artemis Crock clear. Artemis initially reciprocates his romantic feelings, but she is overwhelmed by the thought that she is betraying her past boyfriend Wally West’s memory.

Distraught, Artemis makes a strange choice – she asks Zatanna to help her see Wally again. Zatanna is hesitant, but finally agrees to send her to Limbo where she can interact with her lost love and get the closure she needs.

Artemis becomes very comfortable with her life in limbo, suddenly not heeding Wally’s reminder that she has to leave by sunrise. Artemis doesn’t want to leave anymore, because she’s got a perfect life with Wally. Despite Zatanna’s best efforts, Artemis won’t budge; not until Wally himself pleads with her to live her life and let go of her past. In tears, Artemis leaves Limbo, and Wally, to return to Earth.

Unbeknownst to Artemis, Limbo was little more than a psychic projection by Miss Martian, who created it on Zatanna’s behest. Everything Artemis dealt with was from her own imagination; Zatanna felt that Artemis needed the chance to work through these feelings herself. Not sure how I feel about Artemis’ friends duping her like this.

Artemis returns home to apologize to Will, but also to tell him that she doesn’t think they are compatible romantically. Will agrees, saying he found it awkward when they kissed, especially since she’s his sister-in-law. Honestly, this is probably the most mature decision ever made by the Young Justice writers. Thank goodness these two didn’t get together.

Forager’s Decision

Miss Martian had informed Forager that it was safe for him to return to his home planet New Genesis, if that’s what he wanted to do. Forager works through his options with Superboy – returning to New Genesis means Forager can be himself, but he’s made so many friends on Earth that he doesn’t want to leave. The only trouble is, Forager is beginning to rely heavily on his image inducer, which allows him to fit in but not be himself. Superboy appears to have a solution. He takes Forager to Geranium City, home to many different Genomorphs.

Double X, the Mayor of the town, explains that Superman and the Justice League helped the Genomorphs escape Cadmus and make this city their home. They are happy to welcome Forager here, but not all is as serene as it seems. The Genomorphs live a segregated life, and always undercover. The Mayor interrogates Superboy about his lack of assistance in making them feel welcome among humans.

Forager decides to take on the task to help the Genomorphs fit in better with society. He decides to fight alongside the Outsiders, no longer a covert operative. And once humans see his alien form saving the day, perhaps they will be more accepting of aliens in their daily lives.

Enter Markovia

The Outsiders’ great work continues to make waves, and Brion acts as spokesperson talking up the importance of their message getting out over competing with Infinity Inc. This positive PR will not only help the team but could be a way for Brion and Tara to re-enter Markovia again with the help of the new ruler, Brion’s twin, Gregor. Metas aren’t allowed in Markovia but Gregor could make it work. Unknown to her brothers, Tara is sending all these updates to the Light.

We soon find out why. With Gregor out of Markovia, the Light frees Baron Bedlam, who stages a coup with the help of his meta cohorts. Lex Luthor, who is working with the Light and in charge of the UN, refuses to let the Justice League enter the country and de-throne Bedlam. When Gregor finds out about this, he insists on returning to his country. But Brion has a better idea. The League may be banned from entering Markovia, but the Outsiders aren’t. It’s time for the royal family of the country to return home.

At Outsiders headquarters, babysitting duties are briefly interrupted by Metron. He is impressed by how Violet and Vic have evolved ‘his technology’ and he tells them that they will play significant roles in the upcoming war against Darkseid. How ominous.
