Why Women Kill season 1, episode 3 recap: I Killed Everyone He Did, But Backwards and in High Heels
By Ariba Bhuvad
Is Beth Ann making a grave mistake on Why Women Kill? Probably, but we’re here for it.
Why Women Kill is surprisingly chugging along with its multi-decade story of three very interesting couples and the women in them. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it along, can they get rid of the 2019 storyline all together? I don’t like it, at all. It just feels so unnecessary.
But before we get to 2019, let’s start with what’s going on in the 60s with Beth Ann, her cheating husband Rob, and his mistress April. Beth Ann has turned over a new leaf with her style, fashion, and personality ever since she learned Rob has been cheating on her. She’s made it her mission to keep his mistress, April, away from him, but I just have one question. Can’t she punish him instead?! I know its the 60s so things aren’t as black and white when it comes to marriage, but still.
This is why it’s intriguing to see Beth Ann take matters into her own hands when she finds out that Rob is spending yet another night out of the house to be with April. She strategically shows up at his office, takes one of the files he’s been working on, and ensures that he will not be able to take April out that night. Instead, April ends up calling Beth Ann (remember, they’re friends now) to join her now that she has no plans.

I could be wrong, but it’s starting to feel like Beth Ann is becoming just as invested in keeping April around as Rob is. This is not going to end well, and what started as a way to keep April away from Rob might end up in a completely different situation. But, for now, I’m here for all the badass empowering things Beth Ann will get up to.
Moving onto the 80s storyline of Why Women Kill, we’ve got Simone and Karl who are dealing with the aftermath of Karl’s fake suicide attempt. Little does Karl know that Simone is sleeping with her best friend’s son, Tommy. She’s feeling young and energized again as a result but when the night of the gala arrives, things start getting complicated.
He normally wouldn’t, but knowing Simone will be at the gala, Tommy volunteers to help his mother out just to be near Simone. However, he quickly loses his temper when he hears Karl making odd, annoying remarks that belittle Simone. The kid’s in love, and I think he’s about to have his heart broken. But we’ll see how this plays out.
Last but not least, we’ve got the lame, weird part of Why Women Kill. After having a threesome, Taylor, Jade, and Eli seem to be getting along splendidly. Besides the fact that Taylor is exhausted from working her ass off and coming home to find Eli not doing much of anything. Jade and Taylor plan a night out hoping to be without Eli, but when Eli overhears their plans, they have no choice but to bring him along.

Taylor is in for a rude awakening when Jade runs into another couple that she used to sleep with, and it’s clear Taylor is jealous AF. Even Eli notices! It doesn’t help that the couple invites Jade to go to Venice with them, because why not? They’re rich influencers.
The whole situation sends Taylor into a drinking frenzy which ends up with her fighting with Jade and waking up in the middle of the night wanting to go and apologize to her. Eli quickly realizes what Jade means to Taylor, and asks Jade to join them as a couple. Commence long making out session.
Yah, this story isn’t nearly as interesting or engaging as the other ones. And as much as I love Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Reid Scott, and Alexandria Daddario, I just don’t care for their characters in Why Women Kill. But I’ll wait it out, maybe it’ll get better. But I won’t hold my breath.
Why Women Kill airs new episodes every Thursday on CBS All Access!
