NYCC 2019: Morgan le Fay debuts in new Marvel’s Runaways teaser

The Runaways face their biggest threat yet in the new season 3 teaser!

Back when Runaways first debuted, everyone involved insisted that the show would not delve into the magical aspects of the comics. Nico’s staff was changed to be some piece of advanced technology which read her brainwaves and needed her blood as an identifier. However, that has all changed with the recent addition of the infamous villain, Morgan le Fay. The new trailer makes it clear that the kids will be going up against a power which they don’t quite understand.

Season 3 will pick back up where the finale left off, the Runaways scattered. With Chase, Gert, and Karolina all captured, the remaining members will be frantic to track them down. Unfortunately, they’ll also have to keep a very pregnant Leslie safe from a new enemy while Nico leads the team down a dark path. From the trailer, it’s clear Morgan le Fay will be tempting and manipulating her with some black magic.

It was announced earlier this year that Elizabeth Hurley would be joining the cast as the famous sorceress. While she didn’t attend NYCC, she did film a short video for the panel where she “spoiled” the entire season but Marvel bleeped out almost every sentence.

When speaking to co-creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage as well as the Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, they addressed the addition of “magic”. Schwartz simply said that the reason it was integrated for season 3 was simply “We earned it.” Meanwhile Savage spoke a little bit more about what to expect.

"“Yeah, I mean magic is a little more heightened than the tech-based things. Even though magic is just science we don’t understand. But wanting to get there, and really earn it, and feel like if we could do it in a way that was grounded. But to do it because in the DNA of the show, we do have aliens, time travel, magic, and dinosaurs. And wanting to be able to do that this season and kind of have fun with those different, mixing up those genres."

The series has a massive ensemble. Rhenzy Feliz, Gregg Sulkin, Allegra Acosta, Ariela Barer, Lyrica Okano, and Virginia Gardner star as the titular team. Their parents are comprised of Annie Wersching, Ever Carradine, Angel Parker, Brigid Brannagh, Brittany Ishibashi, James Marsters, Ryan Sands, Kevin Weisman, and James Yaegashi.

All ten episodes of season 3 will be available on Hulu starting December 13. There is no word yet if the show will be renewed for a season 4.
