9-1-1 season 3, episode 4 recap: Triggers
By Ariba Bhuvad
Well, Buck just made things pretty darn awkward on 9-1-1.
9-1-1 is officially going to be pretty darn awkward from here on out, all thanks to Buck’s decision. But before we talk about that, let’s discuss how we got there. After everything that’s happened to Buck, he was super eager to get back to work. Unfortunately, Bobby doesn’t feel he’s quite ready to, especially after this tsunami business.
At first, Buck is more determined than defeated. He’s taking on his new role as valiantly as he can with minimal complaints. He’s ready to get back, and if this is what he has to do, so be it. It doesn’t help, however, that at the station, Buck’s name is taped over with the station’s temporary recruit, Lena. It sort of feels like he’s being replaced, and I don’t blame him for feeling so.
Things get worse after Buck finds out Bobby was the one who recommended that Buck’s return to work be delayed and that he was “unfit”. Poor Buck, he’s been through the wringer lately, hasn’t he? After all this defeat, Buck is still willing to fight on, but not in the way anyone saw coming.

After discussing the situation with a lawyer, Buck ultimately decided he’s going to sue Bobby and the city for wrongful termination. It’s sort of a weird situation because earlier in the episode Buck was Team 118, but as soon as the lawyer got in his head, he changed his tune fast.
The lawsuit means that Buck cannot be in contact with anyone from the station. And just like that, 9-1-1 broke our hearts because this doesn’t just mean Bobby. It means Eddie and Christoper too. Ugh, why!
And while I’m mentioning Christopher, during this week’s episode he was experiencing night terrors. Eddie is finally able to find out the cause of it (the tsunami) and that Christopher keeps seeing his mother drowning in his nightmares. This poor kid! Luckily, he has Eddie for a dad.
Meanwhile, in Maddie’s world of 9-1-1 calls, she’s overwhelmed when she gets a call from a woman being abused by her husband. It gives her PTSD thinking back to her own situation and almost immediately, she becomes too involved in this person’s life. In fact, she shows up at the house hoping to talk to the husband and almost runs him over.
It was quite the intense episode of 9-1-1, and we’re not even halfway through the season yet!
9-1-1 airs every Monday on Fox at 8 PM EST!
