For All Mankind settles into the gloom and doom as Ed deals with the news of Shane’s death.

For All Mankind has had an interesting first season filled with ups and downs, and I’ve often wondered, where are we headed with all of its narratives? As this episode kicks off, Ed is essentially giving up on himself, everyone, and everything. He’s dealing with the aftermath of learning his son, Shane, has died. And when you’re stuck all the way up on the moon, all alone, it’s a rather difficult thing to deal with.

All the comms from Earth are being ignored as the messages begin to pile up. Naturally, everyone’s a tad bit worried about Ed’s state of mind, and want to do all that they can to get him the hell out of there. Hence, why the urgency to get the Apollo 24 mission on its way was more important than ever. Unfortunately, on its way to rescue Ed, Apollo 24 runs into some technical issues. It is then decided Apollo 25 will be sent out to help with repairs.

I have to admit that For All Mankind threw me for a loop when both Apollo 24 and 25 were up in space, and in the midst of it, Apollo 24 floats off and Apollo 25 barely manages to save Molly. I think was one of the most intense scenes of the series so far because the thrill and fear of being stuck in that situation are depicted so well.

More from Show Snob

Back on Earth, Margo is insisting that the mission to save Molly be abandoned in order to save more people. But Margo’s orders be damned, that’s not what anyone was going to do. All efforts were placed into rescuing Molly, and luckily, they were fruitful.

As expected, Karen is struggling to keep it together, and we can only imagine how hard it is without Ed there with her.

All the NASA wives are there to support and take care of her, but she seems to only find solace when she sneaks out to get high with Wayne. Can we blame the lady?

Aleida, on the other hand, is dealing with her father’s anger over hiding her acceptance into the math and science program. He worries about her future and that she may be jeopardizing it over a boy–for whom she is willing to let go of this program for. But if you thought that was bad, then you’re in for a rude awakening.

Aleida’s father, Octavio, is brought in for questioning and before we know it he’s accused of spying for the Communists and the such. The reality is, anything he ever took from NASA was for Aleida, but it’s enough to get Octavio arrested and deported. I’m a bit concerned for what Aleida’s future looks like now, and who she will stay with if things go really south.
