What the heck is going on with Jamie in this week’s episode of The Sinner?

The Sinner is possibly darker than its ever been since the series first premiered. There is something about Matt Bomer’s dark, conflicted character, Jamie, that makes me feel nervous and scared. He does such a good job portraying a man that’s not all there, sometimes innocent, sometimes pure evil.

When this episode kicks off, Jamie’s wife, Leela, is nearly ready to have their baby, but Jamie can’t get it together. He’s a hot mess, and can’t stop thinking about a grave being dug. That remains a mystery, but it’s basically the only thing that crosses his mind, despite the fact his wife is about to give birth to their baby.

Detective Ambrose learns some interesting information regarding Jamie’s past. Apparently, Jamie beat the crap out of his roommate back in college. Upon further investigation, Ambrose talks to the roommate and even gets a picture of Jamie from that night. It’s pretty damning for Jamie who hasn’t been acting much like himself or a normal person for that matter.

The Sinner gives us a scary glimpse at Jamie’s state of mind which helps us understand that he may have always been this way. While sitting across from a man that took his parking space, Jamie seems like he’s going to murder him right then and there.

It only gets worse when he advises one of his students to make her own decisions regarding her future. She doesn’t have to do what her parents want. Let’s just say, her parents aren’t too thrilled to learn he met with her off-campus to talk about this.

Jamie returns home that night to find Leela is ready to give birth–and her brother is already there. You can tell this irks Jamie but the baby is basically ready to come out at this point so he can’t say much then. But it does get awkward when he yells at Leela’s brother and takes the baby away from him.

One of the freakiest moments of this episode of The Sinner is when Jamie is holding the baby and he sees Nick in the room with him. The vision of Nick makes Jamie hand the baby over to him as he suffocates the baby to death. Of course, this isn’t actually happening but it speaks to Jamie’s state of mind.

He’s not very receptive to the psychiatrist asking him personal questions about his mental health. Bravo, Matt Bomer for pulling off such a phenomenal performance during this week’s episode.

As for Jamie? He’s on the loose, and it’s up to Ambrose to find him before he does something stupid.
