Ann Dowd joins Showtime’s The President Is Missing Adaptation
Showtime’s adaptation of The President Is Missing, the 2018 political thriller written by James Patterson and Bill Clinton (some politician you may have heard of), will feature Ann Dowd as the titular missing President.
Ann Dowd will play President Jillian Stroud opposite David Oyelowo’s Vice-President James Martin, who becomes President when Stroud unexpectedly vanishes during her first term in office in The President is Missing.
The adaptation has some changes from the book, which followed President Jonathan Lincoln Duncan as he uncovered a geopolitical conspiracy to undermine the United States. Per Deadline, the show will feature Oyelowo as:
"“a powerless and politically aimless vice president [who] unexpectedly becomes president halfway into his administration’s first term when President Jillian Stroud (Dowd) goes missing, despite his every wish to the contrary.”"
The new President seems like he’ll be rushed into more than he can handle based on the show’s description.

This is another major role for Dowd, who has seen her stock rise sharply in recent years. After establishing herself as a reliable character actor on network TV (playing nine different single-episode characters in the Law & Order franchise), Dowd has seen her stock rise sharply in recent years since her scene-stealing role of Patti Levin on HBO’s The Leftovers. She also currently stars on Hulu’s web-series The Handmaid’s Tale as Aunt Lydia, a role she has received two Emmy nominations for, winning Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2017.
In addition to Dowd and Oyelowo, The President Is Missing‘s cast will feature Janet McTeer, Paul Adelstein, Medina Senghore, Gina Gallego and Michael Rooker.
The show will be executive produced by Patterson, Clinton, Oelowo, Academy Award-winner Christopher McQuarrie (of The Usual Suspects fame), Heather McQuarrie, Anthony Peckham, Bill Robinson, and Leopoldo Gout, and be co-executive produced by Jillian Share. Peckham, who wrote Invictus and the 2009 adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, will write the series.
