Will Ozark’s Marty and Wendy Byrde make it through this difficult time? Seems unlikely.

Ozark has progressively pitted Marty and Wendy against one another. This is why when we learn that Wendy is also bribing their therapist, it’s not the most shocking reveal. I mean these two are as dysfunctional as it gets yet there feels as if there is a tiny string still keeping them together–their trauma.

Their therapy session gets heated when both start to bare all their inner secrets to one another. Marty confesses he’s been tapping into Wendy’s calls and recording them, which prompts Wendy to counteract with a “you’re just jealous” argument. It’s a hot mess, Ozark fans, and yet we’re here sitting and watching with a tub of popcorn in our laps.

Whatever went down during the therapy session, revealed a few too many of their secrets in front of the therapist who essentially had to be bribed with even more money to practice patient/doctor confidentiality. Um, she should be doing that anyway.

Unfortunately, the fight ends with Wendy asking Marty to leave their house. And thus begins a very rocky road for the Byrde couple–and we’re not sure they’re going to come out of it together.

Someone who is not happy to hear of this new development is Helen. If the Byrdes break up or get divorced, it will take a toll on their “business”. And well, there’s also the whole “they can’t tell anyone or they’ll get murdered for knowing too much” issue.

Meanwhile, our resident Ozark manipulator is still hard at work trying to turn Agent Maya. Marty is going to do what it takes to secure this, even if it means going along with a whole confession ordeal. He’s not going to sign it, of course, but he is going to use it to bring Maya over to the dark side.

The episode takes a tangent and focuses on the children briefly, who get into a bit of a situation with Erin and Tommy. Fires are shot, words are had, and cops show up. If you recall, Helen’s daughter, Erin, has no idea what her mother actually does, and Helen intends to keep it that way. The fact that Charlotte and Jonah know everything and are now friends with Erin doesn’t help, which is why Helen is furious over their arrest.

But let’s be real. Erin is the real problem here, the other two know to act accordingly. Helen, you need to have a talk with Erin–just saying.

I didn’t think Ozark was in the cards this season but it appears to be the case between Ben and Ruth, who totally deserves some happiness. The girl works too hard!

But there’s something about Ben that Ruth doesn’t know–he’s bipolar. And because of his medications, he can’t perform the way he wants sexually. So when that issue comes up or doesn’t for a lack of a better word, Ben decides to flush his medications down the toilet. Well, that won’t end well, and as soon as Wendy finds out what her dear brother has done–she’s livid.

And I mean, Wendy has a reason to be concerned. Ben off his medications can be risky and dangerous for the cartel business, and the manner in which things are progressing, he’s probably going to create some problems going forward.

The episode ends on a cryptic note as Marty’s paranoia begins to heighten. He’s pretty sure someone is following him so he rushes home to be with the family. Amidst all the chaos, danger, and cartel shenanigans, the Byrde family comes together to–play board games. It feels in the context of what is currently on in Ozark, but if anyone can be this ordinary during something like this, it’s the Byrde family.

Oh, and that’s not the only thing that happens at the end of the episode. Concerned about Ruth’s safety (after all the sex they’ve finally managed to have sans Ben’s medication), Ben asks Jonah to use his drone to keep an eye on Ruth while she’s out making a run.

Ruth arrives at the drop-off to meet Frank’s men, who are being jerks and parking a lot further than they should be so Ruth has to go out of her way to get to them. But during all of this, Ben notices a surge of SUVs driving towards Ruth. Danger is lurking nearby, and Ben saves the day by asking Ruth to get out of there.

And while Ruth does get out of there, the men left behind are not so lucky. As the SUVs arrive, men with guns come out and shoot everyone in the vicinity up and blow up the van in the process.

Well, then. Hello, cartel war–it seems as if you have finally arrived.
