Snowpiercer series a Season 3 renewal ahead of its Season 2 debut

TNT has renewed their Snowpiercer series for a third season ahead of its Season 2 premiere.

TNT’s Snowpiercer series is the last man standing at the cable channel where scripted series are dropping like flies. Animal Kingdom is coming to an end, as is Claws, leaving Snowpiercer as the last remaining scripted show on TNT. Now, Deadline reports that the show based on Bong Joon-ho’s successful 2013 film has been renewed for a third season ahead of its January 25 return.

The channel is moving toward more unscripted fare, especially now that WarnerMedia has its own streaming service to funnel all their good shows. I’m actually surprised they haven’t moved Snowpiercer yet, considering the first season is already available to stream on HBO Max.

Perhaps it’s not quite so surprising when you look at the show’s overall ratings. The first season launched with 3.3 million Live+Same Day total viewers across TNT and TBS. It ranked as the #1 new cable drama series of 2020 and became TNT’s most-watched program since The Alienist premiere.

On TNT’s linear and digital platforms, its reach has gone even further, surpassing 32 million viewers, and that’s without tabulating the HBO Max numbers.

Since Season 2 of the Snowpiercer series is airing next week, it’ll be a while before Season 3 debuts. I imagine it won’t premiere until the end of the year or in early 2022.

The first season of the post-apocalyptic dystopian thriller ended with the revolution survivors trying to maintain peace amongst the merged classes and several shocking twists that should set in motion an exciting sophomore season.

Among the big-name stars in the series includes Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Sean Bean, Alison Wright, and Rowan Blanchard.
