With Halloween around the corner, there are so many great horror shows available to watch, but how do you decide what to pick? That's where we come in.

I shared a list of five great horror shows worth your time as we get closer to Halloween. To make sure there's truly something for everyone, I picked brand-new shows, classic adaptations, and a current underrated series.

Let's get the list started with one of those new adaptations, Carrie, from Mike Flanagan.

Carrie

The latest Mike Flanagan adaptation has hit Prime Video, and it’s a huge hit. Based on Stephen King's novel of the same name, the series follows a young teenager, Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), as she attends high school for the first time after being kept inside her entire life and sheltered by her highly religious mother. However, as she comes of age, she also learns she has telekinetic powers.

The series isn't a one-for-one adaptation of Carrie, but that’s what makes it better than many others. It’s not the Carrie film, because that's a masterpiece on its own. Flanagan's series dives deeper into each character's complexities and offers plenty to talk about. I think it’s one of Flanagan’s best, but others may disagree. He has a three-season plan for the show, so you might as well watch the first season.

You can stream Carrie on Prime Video.

American Horror Story

American Horror Story is a mainstay in the horror community. Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, this anthology series features a different horror story each season and sometimes brings back characters from earlier seasons for a big crossover (seasons 8 and 13).

AHS 13 has been airing for the last few weeks, and it's been a wild ride, to say the least. Many fans have been confused. So, there's that, but the first few seasons of AHS are awesome television, and even some of the later seasons are great. They weave horror and comedy well, and they tell pretty awesome stories, too.

You can stream American Horror Story on Hulu.

Crystal Lake

If you want to learn more about Jason’s origin story and his mother, Pamela, check out Crystal Lake. The new Peacock original is basically Pamela's (Linda Cardellini) origin story and how she became the legend she is after her son, Jason, drowned at Camp Crystal Lake.

As someone who grew up watching horror shows and movies, I can say the Friday the 13th films were always mainstays, and you can’t really have a horror childhood without watching at least a few of them and slowly coming to love slashers.

Granted, I still can’t watch the super gory stuff (even I have limits after years of watching The Walking Dead). But those movies defined me. However, when I first heard about this series and knew I'd be learning more about Pamela, I was a little less than excited because I didn’t know how much I’d like it.

As it turns out, it’s actually really good. In fact, it’s one of the franchise's highest-rated projects, so you might as well check it out.

You can stream Crystal Lake on Peacock.

The Haunting Of Hill House

If you want to check out what I consider the best Mike Flanagan adaptation, The Haunting of Hill House is the one for you. Based on the Shirley Jackson novel of the same name, this series follows the story of an estranged family who come together after their youngest tragically passes away and how her death might have to deal with the haunted house that they were forced to grow up in.

This series basically changed the landscape of horror TV. It was one of Netflix's best when it first released and is still a great show if you want classic horror with a story that will make you laugh and cry. It’s not a one-for-one adaptation of the book, but that’s what Mike Flanagan does best, and this series shines.

Not only that, but the cast is phenomenal, and I'd recommend watching it for the performances alone. Victoria Pedretti absolutely knocked it out of the park.

You can stream The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix.

From

Last but not least, I’m going to give From a little bit of love, because they’re going to be coming to Netflix late this month. However, if you can’t wait, you can check it out on MGM+ now.

The series takes place in a town stuck in a loop: the moment you step into its boundaries, you're trapped, and even when you head into the woods to leave, you still can’t get out. At night, they are haunted by terrifying creatures that kill people. When a new family arrives, the town’s de facto mayor has to keep them safe while also trying to figure out a way out.

From leaves people with so many questions and barely any answers, but that’s what makes people keep watching and wanting to learn more. Heck, I’m four seasons in and hoping that the last season still answers questions I’ve had for a few years. Even so, it’s a great horror show that will have you on the edge of your seat from the moment it begins.

You can stream From on MGM+.

All of these shows are so much fun, and trust me, you will have a great time bingeing!
