Let’s say it’s a chilly November afternoon, and you’re looking for a new show to add to your binge-watching list. There are so many great picks, and many of them are available to stream on one of my favorite streaming services, HBO Max.

There's no doubt that HBO has produced some of the best dramas of the last several years or so. We all know about the network's pre-streaming track record, too. All in all, there's a lot of shows to choose from on the streaming service, but that's where we can help. I shared six awesome dramas available on HBO Max that will have you on the edge of your seat.

There are some awesome new shows in November to check out, too, but if you want the best of the best, these six shows are for you.

The Gilded Age

Set in the 1880s, the “Gilded Age” of America, The Gilded Age is a period drama that shows what life was like during the country's technological and social changes, highlighting the divide between new and old money and how cultures clash.

I personally wasn’t even a huge fan of period pieces because they take things out of context and over-dramatize many instances from that time. However, I must admit that The Gilded Age isn’t trying to tell anyone's story, and because of that, it’s highly entertaining. It compares real-life families with the fictional ones we see in the show, and it’s well-written, well-acted, and has season 4 releasing in November. So, you might as well check it out now and get caught up before the new season premieres.

The Gilded Age has an incredible cast that includes Carrie Coon, Taissa Farmiga, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Jack Gilpin, Harry Richardson, Blake Ritson, Thomas Cocquerel, Simon Jones, Cynthia Nixon, Christine Baranski, and many more.

Succession
Succession season 4 | HBO

Succession

With only four seasons, Succession is the series you don’t expect to love, but you'll binge it in an entire weekend or a few short weeks. It's that good!

The series mainly follows the Roy family, who own a global media and entertainment conglomerate, and the struggle over who will control it after the health of the family’s patriarch, Logan (Brian Cox), comes into question. Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Nicholas Braun, Alan Ruck, Matthew Macfadyen, and more also star in the series.

Let me tell you something honest about me: I am not a business girl. I don’t understand much of the lingo that goes around in this industry, and I was locked in with this series. That says a lot. The drama on screen, paired with the acting, makes Succession one of the easiest shows to get into, and its excellent writing will shock you to your core.

The Pitt

If you ever want to feel endlessly stressed for several hours straight, check out The Pitt. Starring Noah Wyle, The Pitt takes place in a fictionalized emergency department in Pittsburgh and shows an hour-by-hour look at the average day of a doctor, nurse, or worker in the emergency room.

The first season takes place on a normal workday, but the second takes place on the 4th of July, which only ramps up the grossness of some of the injuries you see. If you have a weak stomach, I will admit this series is probably not for you. There are a lot of accurate but very gruesome injuries that are shown on screen.

However, if you can handle that, then The Pitt is some of the best television you will see these days. Each doctor's storyline is molded so perfectly together and feels real because anyone could go through it. The Pitt’s third season is premiering next year, so you might as well check it out now.

The Wire

It would be a sin if I didn’t put The Wire on this list. The Wire, which premiered in 2002 and ran for five seasons through 2008, is set in Baltimore, Maryland. Each season focuses on a different aspect of the city and its relationship to the law itself, from the drug trade to the police department to education system to the news and more.

Ironically, The Wire never won a single Emmy Award, yet it's constantly in the conversation among the best television shows ever.

The cast is incredible, featuring names that have gone on to become megastars, like Idris Elba, Dominic West, and more. Each season's stories are so detailed you’ll be sucked in the moment you begin.

The Sopranos

If you're craving a crime drama, The Sopranos is the series for you. Starring James Gandolfini, The Sopranos follows New Jersey Mafia boss Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) as he struggles to balance his criminal life with his family and the emotions that come along with the life he leads, especially as he begins having panic attacks.

I mean, it’s The Sopranos. I feel like I don’t even need to tell you why to watch it. With six seasons and a legacy that has outlived its run, it’s one of the best HBO shows for a reason and will surely be the best mafia fix you could ever need.

The White Lotus

The White Lotus

The White Lotus is a series that turned into a worldwide phenomenon. The show follows several hotel guests who travel to legendary luxury hotels around the world. Still, at each hotel, something terrible happens that involves the guests, the workers, or someone else and causes craziness.

Of many modern HBO shows, The White Lotus is the one I’d recommend most. It’s not too scary for those who don’t want a lot of drama, but it still has hilarious moments that make it stand out among the platform's other productions. And with a fourth season on the way, it’s the perfect series to check out.

You can stream all of these great shows and more on HBO Max.
