Could True Detective Season 2 be a black comedy?
By Josh Hill
The second season of the hit HBO series True Detective is right around the corner and there are still a lot of questions being asked about the show and the direction it will take. The cast has been picked, a director for the first few episodes found and Nic Pizzolatto is finishing up the scripts for all of the episodes.

But when it comes to the tone of the show, that’s a total mystery and one that fans are trying to figure out. It’s likely that the show keeps in line with the dark tone it had in season one, but there’s a chance that it could break a bit and go in a different direction.
Without losing it’s darkness, True Detective could go down a path that makes it lean more towards a black comedy than a straight up drama, which would be a great way to give season two it’s own flavor. Think about it: Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn have impeccable comedic timing, as does Rachel McAdams. Taylor Kitsch is a perfect straight man, and seeing him in a black comedy setting could make his role work.
It could be a Quentin Tarantino style season where the story is serious, the elements are dark but the humor is razor sharp with with and darkness. That’s all a guess, but it’d be something that makes the new season of the show stand alone from the first.
