True Detective Season Two: Where Are the Other Directors?

HBO made ways when it was announced that Justin Lin would be directing at least the first two episodes of True Detective’s second season. Lin is most famous for directing several Fast & Furious films, but he’s also taken the helm of Community on more than occasion. Lin has been the only director to have been officially announced for season two. So where are the others?

True Detective’s production has been a secretive process. Unlike Game of Thrones, which thrives on giving fans an in-depth look into production including cast videos during filming and beautiful location videos, True Detective has been nowhere near as open. This could partially be contributed to the fact that filming hasn’t begun yet, but it’s doubtful that True Detective will end up being as open.

Except for a couple of instances of actor’s announcing their own involvement in season two, HBO has announced everything as soon as it has become official. This leads us to believe that the full director list for season two hasn’t quite filled out yet.

Since Lin is taking on the first two episodes, the most immediate director choice has been filled, which means that there doesn’t have to be a rush to fill out the rest of the roster.

But time keeps ticking away. As far as we all know, HBO is still aiming for a January premiere. Assuming that Lin will only direct the first two episodes, we are down possibly six directors depending on how the episodes will be split between them. You can bet that a shortlist exists, but it’s becoming curious that all the ducks aren’t yet in a row.
