Things are suddenly looking up for True Detective. The series that couldn’t get a single win at the big awards is suddenly raking them in from the smaller guilds. Hot off their win for editing, True Detective has now won at the ADG awards — the Art Directors Guild.

All these acronyms are starting to get out of hand, aren’t they?

The ADG awards honor both film and television, so the winners include the best of both. True Detective took home a win in One-Hour Contemporary Single-Camera Series for the episodes “The Locked Room,” and “Form and Void.”

True Detective wasn’t the only series to be recognized at the ADG awards; Game of Thrones, American Horror Story: Freak Show, Silicon Valley, Big Bang Theory, and Portlandia all took home awards. Missing from that list is Fargo, True Detective’s big competitor.

Fargo swept the Golden Globes this year, leaving True Detective in the dust. They’ve both been doing well at the smaller awards but True Detective seems to have the slight edge. The big shows may have trouble recognizing the acting prowess on display in True Detective, but the guilds have no problem showing their love for all the other pieces that make up the series.

True Detective continues to have great luck when it comes to the smaller guild awards. Unfortunately these usually aren’t the sort of awards that studios tend to advertise on box art, but that doesn’t make them any less meaningful. True Detective’s style is one of its greatest aspects, and that includes everything from the art, editing, and direction.

If only these awards were as widely known as the bigger shows.
