Report: True Detective Wins at ACE awards

Although True Detective continues to be shut out of the larger award shows, that hasn’t topped it from showing up at the smaller guild awards. For example, even though True Detective has lost at the Emmy’s, SAG awards, and Golden Globes, it did pick up an award for casting.

And now True Detective has one more to add to its growing list: the ACE Eddie award. The ACE awards — American Cinema Editors — honors editors of both film and television. True Detective took home the top prize of dram television, winning in the Best Edited One-Hour Series For Non-Commercial Television.

True Detective’s Editor Affonso Gonçalves won for the episode “Who Goes There.” The only other hour-long drama to win was Sherlock for Best Edited One-Hour Series For Commercial Television.

It’s been very difficult for True Detective to be recognized for the performances of its actors, but it’s had a much easier time with other aspects of production such a directing, casting, and now editing.

The ACE awards are further proof that the first season of True Detective did something special from a production standpoint. The first season was one of the most strikingly filmed and edited seasons of TV airing last year. Hopefully the second season will do just as well in that category.

True Detective may have run out of time to win those much-coveted acting awards, but the ACE awards are a prestigious award of a different kind and worth being proud of. The DGA awards will take place this weekend and it would be great if True Detective could nab an award for directing to go with their shiny editing one.
