The DGA awards are True Detective’s last shot at an award this season and its chances are arguably better than any other award. Even though True Detective has been totally shut down at every major award ceremony so far, the smaller guilds have not been shy in their love for the first season.

And now all that’s left is the DGA awards for directing. Direction is one aspect of True Detective that has been praised but has also been recognized by awards in the past.

This goes against the trend of seeing major praise for True Detective’s actors but not being able to pull in any award love.

True Detective is nominated for “Who Goes There,” the episode featuring the much-lauded single-take tracking shot. True Detective has previously won Best Director at this summer’s past Emmy awards, so there is some precedent to be excited here.

Even True Detective has seen a spectacular losing streak, direction is one piece of True Detective’s first season that everyone seems to be able to agree on. And even though Cary Fukunaga seems to be washing his hands of the experience, it’s difficult to deny that he was a major reason for True Detective’s success.

Regardless of the outcome at the DGA awards, we’ll be here to let you know how it goes. You can check out a clip of Cary Fukunaga winning the Emmy for Best Director below:
