HBO Online Subscription Arriving this Year
The concept of “cord cutting” is one that seems to be catching. More and more people are attempting to break away from the strict confines of watching television at a set time to catch their favorite shows. This leads to the rise of services such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Instant.

Now HBO is finally ready to join the game. Variety is reporting that HBO will launch its standalone streaming service later this year, allowing those without a traditional HBO subscription to subscribe to a streaming-only option.
This service will of course be competing with the other big streaming services out there, and may become a major way to watch shows like True Detective in the future. Arcading to Variety, HBO is “tight-lipped” about what shows the service will offer, but anything less than their full current and past rosters would be a major misstep.
The most interesting bit worth noting is this little tidbit:
"“It’s a premium product and it will be priced accordingly,”"
So perhaps you shouldn’t expect to be picking up a HBO streaming subscription for, say, the average cost of Netflix. HBO is aware that their content — Game of Thrones and True Detective included — is highly sought after and therefore valuable.
Certain HBO shows are already available to stream on Amazon, a move that HBO states has only helped them in the long-run. The arrival of HBO’s own streaming service isn’t expected to shake-up the deal already in place with Amazon.
There are no details as to what that premium price may be, but considering the service is launching this year it won’t be too long until we find out. How much would you pay for a HBO streaming option? Or, rather, how much would be too much?
