True Detective Season 2: What Role Will Rick Springfield Have?

True Detective is shrouded in mystery, and part of that mystery involves character we will see this season, like the one played by Rick Springfield.

So far the cast of the hit HBO series True Detective has been padded with some very interesting names with singer-actor Rick Springfield at the top of the list. He’s not someone anyone had on their True Detective casting wish list, but his addition to the cast isn’t at all a bad thing.

He announced that he as part of the cast on his Twitter account earlier in December, leaving two months for us to all speculate first of all what he’ll play and secondly if he’ll be any good.

Springfield has gotten some acting in here and there over his career with one of his more impressive turns being as a pastiche of himself on Californication. He’s had roles elsewhere too but his biggest role to date will be as a supporting cast member on True Detective.

What role will Springfield have? He didn’t divulge on that in his tweet announcing his casting and since then not much has leaked about his character. From a strung out 50s rocker to someone more sinister to just a random suspect that is in and out within the span of an episode — the possibilities are endless.

Here’s to hoping he gets a solid role though, as Springfield has the acting chops to pull off a meaty role on True Detective, he just needs the chance. It’s going to be a hard sell to fans with high expectations but the second season of True Detective is coming together nicely nonetheless.
