The second season of the hit HBO series True Detective is right around the corner — we think — but Matthew McConuaghey doesn’t regret passing on doing the show again.

When the first season of True Detective wrapped up, all anyone could talk about was the stunning performance of Matthew McConaughey his near Emmy winning role on the show. It was a performance that stuck with fans and critics and is something that many want to see brought back for a future season of the show. When the series was winding down on its first season, there was talk that McConaughey could return but he quickly dashed those hopes.

In an interview a while back with The Mirror UK, McConaughey noted that he’s to upset that he passed on doing a second season of True Detective.

"I don’t regret saying no to a second season. I spent five or six months working on the show and that was just fine. It had a beginning, a middle and an end for me and I don’t know where it would have gone from there."

This says two things, the first is that McConaughey was asked to do a second season at some point over the course of his involvement in the series. But more importantly, it shows that he’s content with his performance the first time around and doesn’t want to go back to the well to destroy what he already created.

That’s hard for an actor to do, especially with the amounts of money that are being thrown out these days to capitalize on hot roles, but True Detective fans can rest assured that there will be no ruining of Rust Cohle anytime soon.
