True Detective Season Two: Will Promo Get a High Profile Release?
Even though information has been painfully slow coming from the HBO and True Detective camps, it feels like we’ve been getting a good dose through various interviews and leaked photos. But what about that first teaser?
We’ve been speculating that the first teaser for True Detective isn’t too far off at this point. Even if the season doesn’t premiere until the summer, HBO is going to want to get at least the first True Detective promo out this spring at the latest.

We were originally pulling for February, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to work out this point.
When HBO does decide to pull the trigger on the True Detective marketing campaign, what will the do with it? Unceremoniously dump it on the internet? That is unfortunately the most likely scenario.
HBO could always air during another high-profile show such as Game of Thrones, but the internet is the fastest way to reach the most amount of viewers.
True Detective doesn’t have the pull to air a premiere promo in a theater, so it’s best not to count on that one — though seeing True Detective in a movie theater in general would be pretty great. True Detective is one of the best and more creative dramas that HBO currently has to offer, but it’s certainly no Game of Thrones.
The best we can hope for is a countdown of some kind and then a release on YouTube. Better to keep expectations as baseline and then be pleasantly surprised if they’re different.
When the first teaser does hit, you can expect to hear all about it right here.
