Could True Detective Live On As a Book Series?
By Josh Hill
HBO is going to be premiering True Detective Season 2 in the summer, but the series could live on after television as a book series — right?
True Detective has only been around for one season, but the show has left an impact on viewers that has already carved out nice legacy for the series. It’s clear that True Detective will be around for at least two more seasons, including the upcoming second season in the summer, but how much longer can it last?

The longevity of the series is something that is a constant question among fans, as many are afraid that the series is going to either outlive it’s popularity or it’s going to die too quickly. Either way, there seems to be an afterlife for True Detective and that could end up being as a series of mystery novels.
It has been suggested that the series could live on as a graphic novel, but things don’t have to be that complicated. A lot needs to go into a graphic novel, and while it’s still an undertaking, it’s a little simpler to write a novel.
True Detective surviving as novel or a series of novels makes sense since the show has a literary flow in a way. It’s a cinematic show, no doubt, but it could easily be translated into a book thanks to the atmospheric nature of the series. You can smell and feel the humidity in True Detective, and that’s something that could be easily conveyed in a novel given the proper author.
Famous franchises like Star Wars and James Bond survive away from the screen in novel form, and there’s nothing to say True Detective can’t join that list.
