Should we Give up on that True Detective Soundtrack?

Even though it at times felt like it would never happen, the second season of True Detective is in full production swing. True Detective will premiere sometime this summer, but we are still without an official date of any kind. Now that the first season has been off the air for more than a year, we’re still wondering just what happened to the soundtrack.

To some, this may seem like beating a dead horse. But it’s a real issue that True Detective fans care about, or at least they did. Time has a funny way of affecting people’s passions.

We still don’t know who is going to compose the music for True Detective’s second season, but at this point it’s likely that HBO has chosen someone for the job.

True Detective’s soundtrack was widely praised. And we’re not just talking about the chosen songs by popular artists, but the actual score by T. Bone Burnett. True Detective has been off the air long enough that any clamoring for the soundtrack is likely only going to be coming from diehard fans; most everyone would have given up on it by now.

And perhaps that’s the smarter move here. It’s impossible to figure out whatever release strategy HBO has (or had) concerning the soundtrack. Perhaps there is something holding it up that’s out of their hands, but we don’t know. Fans of other dark dramas, such as Hannibal, have been able to purchase those soundtracks for some time.

Granted, the Hannibal soundtrack didn’t release until a year after the first season. Maybe the True Detective soundtrack will make a reappearance during the inevitable marketing of the second season. For now, that’s the best that we can hope for. If you’re still holding out for the original score, there’s not much we can do for you.

But you’d like to take a trip through True Detective’s insert songs, well, Youtube has you covered.
