Spoof: Colin Farrell’s True Detective Audition (Video)

There are two reasons that True Detective spoofs are great and plentiful: creative fans, and a world that lends itself easily to being poked at. True Detective‘s first season has come and gone, and it’s perhaps time that the spoof and tribute-makers move on as well. Well, they didn’t really waste anytime.

Colin Farrell will star in True Detective’s second season as the moustached, bolo-tie wearing Ray Velcoro. But Colin Farrell himself is something of a character, as can readily be seen in interviews. Ireland’s own Republic of Telly knows this, and so set out to create a spoof worthy of Farrell.

For those unfamiliar, Republic of Telly is something of a satirical news show. Their new spoof on their YouTube channel, RTÉ Republic of Comedy, finds Colin Farrell being as obnoxious as possible in his True Detective audition. If this were anywhere close to reality, we’re fairly certain that Farrell wouldn’t currently have the job.

While it may not reach the highs of True Dadtective,” it certainly accomplishes what it sets out to do. This is the sort of creative spoof that really only happens because True Detective casts big names in lead roles. It’s unlikely that True Detective would garner this much attention from fans if the cast wasn’t made of some of the biggest actors that Hollywood has to offer.

Still, we’re not complaining.
