The Second True Detective Season Two Trailer is Here (Video)

Earlier today True Detective released a few new teasers on its Instagram account. Apparently that was just the appetizer to the main course, which is a brand new trailer. This time with actual dialogue! This is the first time that we’ve heard the new True Detective characters at all.

Although the trailer is filled with new shots from the True Detective season two, most of it doesn’t feel very new. You have the same kind of pained expressions that has come to be expected from True Detective marketing.

The dialogue that we hear is also not new; much of it has already been seen through earlier released promo material.

Much like True Detective’s first teaser, the second focuses on the characters. Anyone not following along with production would not even know what the second season is about, and that’s how HBO wants to play it. A couple of great shots of Vince Vaughn or Colin Farrell and we’re hooked.

This True Detective season two trailer is more action-packed than the first and so it feels quicker even though it’s the same length. To match the action is new music, but it’s more of the generic cop-drama action variety than what the previous trailer brought us.

Even though we get to hear some dialogue and see some action from True Detective season two, this trailer somehow doesn’t feel as exciting as the first. Maybe because there’s not that much different about it. Are we off the mark here? This won’t be the last True Detective trailer that HBO releases for season two, so hopefully there’s still a great one in the pipeline.
