The summer season for television is almost upon us, and that means the premiere of new shows and the return of old ones. This summer will make for an especially dark season of television, with both the return of True Detective and NBC’s phenomenal Hannibal. And the two are about to mix in an interesting way.

As previously reportedTrue Detective’s Glenn Flehsler will be joining Hannibal’s third season. Fleshler played Erroll  Childress in True Detective’s first season — perhaps better known as the Yellow King. Although the writing failed to really do right by Fleshler’s acting ability, he did cast a long shadow over True Detective.

And now Hannibal and True Detective will be on at the same time. Fans who will be missing Fleshler on True Detective will be able to catch him as Dr. Cordell Doemling, a role that fans of the books will know well. Fleshler does great work with dark, creepy characters.

Hannibal and True Detective, two dark and niche series will be going to head-to-head this starting in June. Hannibal‘s following has been steadily growing as its been attracting more and more critical accolades, but it can’t yet compete with the hype around True Detective.

We’ll be enjoying Fleshler on Hannibal while imagining about an insane Hannibal/True Detective crossover that will never happen. Hannibal will premiere on NBC on June 4th, and True Detective’s second season will premiere on June 21st.
