This Week in True Detective is a feature that aims to bring you the best True Detective happenings of the week. This could include breaking news, popular articles, or anything else that people found interesting or may have missed.

More from HBO

This week was relatively quiet when it came to True Detective news. Most everyone is in full-on hype mode, and True Detective has made a few “must see” lists to prove it.

You can think of this time as a “quiet before the storm” situation. We’re less than a month away from the second season of True Detective, and there’s bound to be at least one more push from HBO before then.

Let’s begin.

  • True Detective will be ditching the flashback narrative, but if you’re still craving it we heartily suggest you check out Showtime’s The Affair.
  • True Detective season one director Cary Fukunaga has left his IT reboot. There must have been a major disagreement for him to leave what seemed like a dream project.
  • HITFIX put True Detective on their “must see” summer TV list, among other hot dramas.
  • We looked into whether or not True Detective season two will actually be less dark than the first. We also took a look at an interesting rumor about Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch.
  • Will NBC’s new drama Aquarius give True Detective a run for its money?
  • The poll results are in from when we asked about strong female characters in True Detective. The results were very surprising, to say the least.
  • We saw an excellent mashup of True Detective and The Golden Girls followed by a clip of Rachel McAdams at the premiere of Aloha.

We did warn you it was sort of a slow week, didn’t we? If you’re getting up to any True Detective related activities this weekend make sure to let us know on Twitter or Facebook.
