Here is our True Detective Season Two Rundown

The second season of True Detective will premiere on June 21st. It feels like we’ve been waiting a long time for this, to say the least. The second season of True Detective is looking to be a tad more complicated than the first, so we thought it was about time to gather some of the more important details in time for the premiere.

More from HBO

As has already been widely publicized, True Detective season two will take place in California. A Reddit user put together a useful guide to the area that is definitely worth your time. True Detective may be switching locales, but it’s still aiming to keep a small-town vibe by avoiding L.A.

The plot will supposedly revolve around the murder of a man whose body was dumped a highway. It’s a safe bet that all four leads will be majority effected by this. That’s the most reliable True Detective information that we have so far.

Take a look at what we know about our leads!

Rachel McAdams as Ani Bezzerades.

Rachel McAdams will play a sheriff that has different ideals than the system she works for. Expect a suitable dark past and perhaps a secret. True Detective characters are not simple creatures; they are rarely purely good or bad. That’s part of the fun.

True Detective season two will be hugely different from the first in structure and it looks like female characters were more of a priority this time around. Both Rachel McAdams and Abigail Spencer have sung the praises of their complex roles.

Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon.

Vince Vaunt’s character is a criminal businessman and the main villain. It’s new for True Detective to put the villain front and center, and it’s a very welcome change. All eyes will be on Vince Vaughn this time around, and not just because of his recent GQ cover.

True Detective needs a serious revamp of how it handles its villains, and making a main character out of one is a great way to do that. True Detective should be more about the characters and less about the mystery, which has caused the show to trip over itself in the past.

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro

Colin Farrell plays a highway patrolman dealing with corruption, perhaps in a similar way to McAdams’ character. There’s a great shot in the trailer with Vaughn and Farrell, so expect major conflict. Plus, just look at that face.

Farrell has been supportive of True Detective, but it didn’t always feel that way. Out of the four leads, he’s been the least excited about his role. Still, his character looks like he’ll have more than a few dark secrets hidden away.

Taylor Kitsch as Paul Woodrugh

Taylor Kitsch will play A veteran and motorcycle cop. There is definitely a theme here. Woodrugh has a rough past, much like everyone else, and likely a few secrets to boot. It wouldn’t be too surprising to see a PTSD storyline here.

Kitsch may have been slightly overshadowed by the other stars involved with True Detective, but that doesn’t mean expectations aren’t high for him. But either way, there is that interesting rumor gong around about him and Vince Vaughn.

To wrap things up, here are the two trailers released so far for True Detective season two. You can find our thoughts on the trailers here and here.
