There is something about joining True Detective that changes careers; it opens doors. It did for Alexandra Daddario, some would argue that it helped Matthew McConaughey get his career back on track, and Vince Vaughn will also be switching things up. Now it looks like Rachel McAdams will also be trying her hand at drama post-True Detective.

Rachel McAdams will star as part of an investigative reporter team on the Boston Globe that brought a lot of the Church’s molestation to light. So, yeah, it’s not going to be a super fun time. Spotlight is based on a true story, in case that wasn’t already evident. You can check out the trailer below, though Rachel McAdams doesn’t get a lot of screen time.

Really, Spotlight appears to be a staring vehicle for Michael Keaton and Mark Ruffalo. But we doubt Rachel McAdams’ role as Sacha Pfeiffer will be relegated to the sidelines. At this point, part of the allure of acting in True Detective may include a chance for actors to spread their wings a bit, so to speak. Much like Matthew McConaughey, McAdams’ career has been stuck in a romantic comedy rut for a while.

Th one-two punch of True Detective and Spotlight may be enough to propel her to new heights. Here’s hoping, anyway. Rachel McAdams has done a fine job as Ani Bezzerides in the second season of True Detective, so we’re more than ready for a more dramatic McAdams going forward.

Make it happen. Also, don’t miss out on Michael Keaton’s righteous duck face.
