TBS’ Angie Tribeca Does True Detective Parody (Video)

Saying that nobody liked True Detective season two wouldn’t be accurate, but if said within the realm of hyperbole it becomes more acceptable. So let’s do that: nobody liked True Detective season two. That, however, doesn’t mean that it hasn’t left its mark. Even though it was one of the top jokes at this year’s Emmy awards, there have been plenty of fan spoofs and tributes to balance it out.

Now, thanks to a new TBS show, True Detective is being thrust back into the spotlight. The new trailer for Angie Tribeca, starring Parks and Recreation’s Rashida Jones, is one great spoof on True Detective’s second season.

Check it out:

By far the most obvious True Detective aspect is the soundtrack, which is done by a singer-songwriter in the same vein as Lera Lynn’s music. It also features aerial shots, people in a car, plenty of sad and bewildered looks, plus a dog driving a car. That last one doesn’t really have anything to do with True Detective directly, but, funnily enough, it’s not the first time we’ve seen a dog driving a car connected with True Detective.

The new series starts in January and follows the titular character as part of the RHCU. You know, the Really Heinous Crime Unit. It’s probably safe to say that this will not be the last True Detective reference that we see in conjunction with Angie Tribeca. Hopefully this minor thrust back into the spotlight doesn’t reignite the True Detective season two hate, but we’ll have to wait and see.
