True Detective Wasn’t at the Golden Globes, But it Wouldn’t Have Won Anyway
Last night’s Golden Globes proved without a doubt that True Detective season two had no real place there.
Viewer’s of lat night’s Golden Globes ceremony were treated to another Ricky Gervais led experience. Whether to not he hit the mark is an argument for a different time. True Detective was not present at the awards, but we knew that was coming for a while. The first season was nominated for multiple Golden Globes, but it didn’t end up taking home a single one.

Even though True Detective didn’t make it to the festivities, Fargo did, and for good reason. The second season of Fargo was outstanding television and somehow managed to trump its first season. Widespread critical acclaim didn’t end up amounting to very much. Fargo was snubbed last night much the way that True Detective’s first season was.

What we can learn from last night’s show — including the inexplicable idea to nominate The Martian as a comedy — is that shows like True Detective have no real place there. If Fargo couldn’t take home any gold, there’s no reason to think that True Detective season two would have been able to even if it were critically lauded.
At the end of the day, the fact that True Detective wasn’t nominated at all doesn’t really sting so much.

There is still a remote possibility that it could win an award from the Producer’s Guild. which could potentially mean more since it would mean that someone out there was able to look past the poor dialogue and see the actual artistic merits.
