When it became the popular option to hate on True Detective, most were happy enough to jump on the bandwagon. But things started to change when HBO’s Michael Lombardo admitted to rushing Nic Pizzolatto into finishing season two. The second season of True Detective had a somewhat rushed, un-cohesive feel to it. Now we all know why.

Lombardo’s statement on True Detective — a bold and almost unprecedented move by a network exec — painted season two in a different light. All of a sudden viewers were let into the True Detective machine, something which Nic Pizzolatto has generally been against. By letting fans know just a small amount of what went on behind the scenes, Lombardo lifted some of the weight off the show.

It’s now easier to be more forgiving towards season two. Fans and non-fans can go back to rewatch it with the fact that it was rushed in mind. That could go a very long way when it comes to repairing True Detective’s damaged reputation.
