Watch Matthew McConaughey in the Free State of Jones Trailer (Video)
The trailer for the upcoming Matthew McConaughey flick Free State of Jones is here.
Matthew McConaughey has so many projects cooking that it’s easy to lose count. Fear not, because the trailer for his next movie, Free State of Jones, has just dropped, making it easier to keep track of what the former Rust Cohle has coming up next. Free State of Jones stars Matthew McConaughey as a farmer during the Civil War who becomes disillusioned with the South.

It’s almost immediately clear that this is going to be a different sort of period film than, say, 12 Years of Slave. Free State of Jones is very clearly taking the action/thriller route. Check out the trailer below:

The trailer is so epic it even features McConaughey walking away from a burning building, one of the proudest action movie clichés. Also, a funeral ambush? Classic. This is obviously McConaughey’s show, as he is the only prominently featured actor. Those paying attention may have caught Mahershala Ali, House of Cards’ Remy Danton and Cornell Stones in the upcoming Luke Cage series.
Free State of Jones looks to be a different sort of movie than the ones Matthew McConaughey has been taking on recently, which have largely been slower and on the more artistic side. It’s not necessarily fair to judge an entire movie from its trailer alone, but sometimes it’s just so easy.

Free State of Jones will hit theaters on May 13th of this year, for those craving some serious Civil War action.
