Rachel McAdams Loses Critic’s Choice Award to Fargo

Rachel McAdams wasn’t able to bring home a Critic’s Choice Award last night for True Detective.

The Critic’s Choice Awards were last night, which is notable because it was one of the few awards shows that actually nominated True Detective. Rachel McAdams was nominated for Best Actress in a Movie Made for Television or Limited Series. We didn’t think McAdams really had a chance, and it turns out we were right. She didn’t.

Rachel McAdams lost the award last night to Kirsten Dunst. All things considered, that’s not such a terrible thing. Dunst was nothing less than magnificent in the second season of Fargo, plus it also helps that Fargo was much better received than True Detective. Dunst arguably should have won the Golden Globe, but the Globes chose to snub both Fargo and True Detective.

Unfortunately for Rachel McAdams, she also lost the award for Spotlight, which she was also nominated for. So, it wasn’t a great night. Even though True Detective and anyone involved with it didn’t (and won’t) stand a chance, it was meaningful that it was nominated. It shows that True Detective is starting to experience some sort of comeback, even if it ends up being a small one.

Rachel McAdams as Ani Bezzerides is of one of the few aspects of True Detective that hasn’t received all that much criticism. It would be too bold a move to nominate Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, or even Taylor Kitsch. McAdams was a safer bet.

Next: Nic Pizzolatto is the only one not talking about True Detective.

True Detective is next up for a Producer’s Guild Award, but we don’t expect much from that.
