How Secretive Will True Detective Season Three be?

True Detective has a reputation for secrecy, but will it extend to season three?

There’s not all that much known about True Detective season three. There was a semi-recent rumor that Jon Hamm was circling a starring role, but that was quickly shot down. Multiple people involved with Nic Pizzolatto have stated that True Detective season three is moving forward even though HBO has not officially renewed it.

The fact that we know so little about True Detective season three is perfectly in-line with how Nic Pizzolatto likes it. Pizzolatto hasn’t uttered a single word publicly concerning True Detective in several months. It’s worth noting that it wouldn’t be surprising at all if True Detective season three went into production secretly. That’s the level we’re dealing with here.

True Detective’s closed production nature hasn’t earned it any new friends, and it hasn’t favorably compared to how Fargo has handled things. There normally wouldn’t be any reason to think that True Detective season three would open up any more than past seasons, but the show is now in somewhat of a unique position.

True Detective made great strides toward being more open with fans by having Nic Pizzolatto do a couple of Q&A’s. Whether or not HBO pressured Pizzolatto into those interviews is a question for a different time. If HBO were to lean a little more on Nic Pizzolatto to not be so closed-off, True Detective could experience a major shift.

That’s kind of what it needs right now.

Nic Pizzolatto has always been True Detective’s worst enemy, but he’s now in a position to turn that around.

At this point we are cautiously optimistic that True Detective season three will follow a different production pattern than the previous two seasons.
