Lincoln is Looking at Matthew McConaughey to Plug Their New Car
If all goes well, Matthew McConaughey will sell Lincoln cars for all eternity.
The Lincoln commercials featuring Matthew McConaughey occupy an interest space in popular culture. It’s practically impossible to separate the commercials from True Detective’s Rust Cohle, but they’re also perfect McConaughey.
Much too serious for their own good, but also loopy in a True Detective Rust Cohle way.

These ads have inspired their own spoofs and fan creations due to how ridiculous they are. Matthew McConaughey has already made a return to the ads after taking a bit of a break, and now The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that he could return yet again.
Even though we have no personal stake in Lincoln, generally speaking, Matthew McConaughey needs to come back to do these commercials. For anyone that may need convincing, here is one to sample:

It’s a completely ridiculous commercial, and that’s why we love it.
Apparently Lincoln will be relaunching the Continental, and they’re looking for a celebrity spokesperson to help them do it. If part of that last sentence sounds iffy, don’t blame us — we’re not car people. The CEO of Lincoln, Kumar Galhorta, jokingly said “properly Matthew” when asked who that celebrity would be.
With any luck, Matthew McConaughey will be doing a version of Rust Cohle in Lincoln commercials until the end of time. If that ends up being the case, we’ll be here to revel in their glory.
Actually, maybe they should have Vince Vaughn do them as Frank Semyon.
Next: Will True Detective season three be as secretive as the past two?
Quick, someone boot-up the spoof machine and get that cooking.
