True Detective Lost at the PGA Awards Last Night

True Detective season two was unsurprisingly unable to take home a PGA Award.

Award season has not, as of yet, been too kind to True Detective. Ignored by both the SAG’s and Golden Globes, the only major award ceremony left is the Emmy’s. Don’t count on that one, either. Still, there have been some bright spots. Even True Detective hasn’t won anything, Rachel McAdams was nominated for a Critic’s Choice Award for her role as Ani Bezzerides.

It seemed a little to good to be true that True Detective season two was nominated for a Producer’s Guild of America Award, and that suspicion has been proven correct. True Detective did not the win the award yesterday for Outstanding Producer of Long-Form TelevisionThat particular award instead went to FX’s Fargo.

More from Show Snob

Better Fargo than perpetual awards hog, American Horror Story, we suppose. Let’s be clear: it’s going to be extremely difficult for True Detective season two to win any awards. In the court of public opinion, season two just wasn’t worthy. When it comes to awards, public opinion means a great deal. That, and internal studio politics.

Still, it’s a small win for True Detective and its fans that it has been nominated at all. Rachel McAdams certainly deserved some recognition for her role as Ani Bezzerides, and there are those out there that would argue that Colin Farrell deserved the same.

True Detective has never really had its day in the sun. The second season is being snubbed, sometimes brutally, and season one lost many major awards even though it was a critical success.
