True Detective’s David Morse Isn’t Too Keen on Talking Season Two Either
True Detective Season Two’s David Morse dodged some True Detective questions in a recent interview.
David Morse is an actor that has gotten around. The man has been in The Green Mile, St. Elsewhere, Treme, and many other notable projects. With that said, he isn’t what you’d typically refer to as a star. He’s now in a new series for WGN, Outsiders, which is about a group of people living on the fringes of society and away from traditional law.
Oh, and he played Ani Bezzerides’ father in True Detective season two, Eliot Bezzerides.

Outsiders is the focus of Morse’s recent interview with Observer, but he does touch on several other topics. One topic that he’s not especially keen to talk about, however, is True Detective. Morse only directly mentions season two when asked how it feels to be a part of a major part of pop culture:
"“All you can really do is focus on the work. Everything else is out of your control. With True Detective…True Detective’s first season was so remarkable, anybody that watched it knew they’d seen something special. And it would’ve been hard for [True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto] to repeat that for a second season.”"

David Morse doesn’t discuss his role on True Detective directly, choosing instead to take the more diplomatic route. When pushed if he was aware of the pressure of matching season one, Morse instead talks about experiences on St. Elsewhere and Treme. It’s a bit of a missed opportunity to learn a bit more about the inner workings of True Detective.
When all is said and done, Morse is just following in the footsteps of almost every other actor that took part in True Detective season two. Most haven’t even given interviews, and there doesn’t seem to be any interest out there for them to do so. Eliot Bezzerides was in three episodes of True Detective, which for a season of only eight episodes is a significant presence.
Next: True Detective season two lost the PGA Award.
It’s an unfortunate, and, frankly, weird state of affairs.
