Hero Report: Zari shines in an excellent Legends of Tomorrow

With almost all shows on hiatus because of the Winter Olympics, Legends of Tomorrow is the only series in this week’s Hero Report.

Luckily, the time-traveling show came out swinging with another excellent outing. It’s still less than ideal that Supergirl loses its season three momentum to Legends of Tomorrow, but the latter is quickly proving that it will provide great entertainment as well.

In a Groundhog Day type episode, Legends of Tomorrow has another great outing. It’s surprising how underrated this show about time-traveling misfits is compared to the rest of the Arrowverse since it’s been pretty consistent since season two. While last week leaned on some of the returning players from the other CW shows, “Here I Go Again” puts the focus on recent addition — Zari. Tala Ashe knocks it out of the park and makes a serious argument as to why she should stick around as a permanent team member. The episode is meant for Zari to learn more about the rest of the Waverider crew, and how she fits into this universe. While Hawkgirl always felt out of place, Zari feels like such a natural fit and it’s hard not to hope she stays on board for another season.

Teaming up with Nate, mainly because he’s the only one who consistently believes her, Zari is tasked with learning her teammates’ secrets in order to break a time loop that always ends with the Waverider exploding. Ultimately, it turns out that Gideon has put her into a simulation meant to show Zari her place on the team and it leads her to actually give her friends good advice. By the end of “Here I Go Again,” she has gotten rid of any friction with Sara, helped Mitch with his sci-fi novel,  and helped steer Nate and Amaya in the right direction for their new relationship,

Next week, the Hero Report is going to be full, with almost every series returning from hiatus with big episodes. Hopefully, the other Arrowverse shows pull out of this slump they’ve been suffering since the start of the new seasons.  Also, Legends of Tomorrow fans will get to see Wally West finally join the team next week during his adventures with former team leader Rip Hunter.
