Netflix announces new animated series The Dragon Prince by Avatar: The Last Airbender writer Aaron Ehasz.

Netflix announced on twitter its latest in a slew of fantastical animated series. The Dragon Prince is created by Avatar’s Aaron Ehasz and Uncharted game director Justin Richmond. According to Netflix the series follows the exploits of “two human princes who forge an unlikely bond with the elfin assassin sent to kill them, embarking on an epic quest to bring peace to their warring lands.” This description dropped with a really, epically cool promo poster of the three friends facing a really cool dragon. The whole poster just screams cool, even to someone like me who has no interest in dragons or medieval fantasy fiction.

Based on the promo, the animation style looks just fantastic and beautiful and those attending Comic-Con on July 21 just might get a sneak peek of the show itself when Ehasz, Richmond and executive producer Giancarlo Volpe make an appearance to promote the series.

Netflix’s other fantastical animation show, Matt Groening’s Disenchantment will also be making the Comic-Con rounds this month. The Dragon Prince is set to premiere on Netflix in September, with Groening’s Disenchantment set to release just a month previous on August 17.

It seems that Netflix is really stacking up its fantasy animation shows, which is likely to be a huge success for the streaming service. Netflix is smart about the people they attach to certain types of projects, and a supernatural fantasy series like this with Ehasz and Richmond involved is bound to bring in a pre-made fan base.

The replies to the news on Twitter was basically a slew of GIFs and memes expressing delight and celebration, and anticipating uncontrolled bingeing of the series once it is released. There did not seem to be any doubt that the show would be anything but excellent.
