Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy recently revealed season 3 will be taking on a darker tone.

In an interview with Deadline Levy said that season 3 of Stranger Things will “definitely going to yet darker still, places that I think audiences are going to really love.

Given the characters are getting older it would make sense that things would get darker and more mature for them.

Stranger Things actor David Harbour also had his own details to add.

Harbour also reveals that season 3 will also contain some homage from some “epic” movies from 1985.  In case your curious some of the big movies from that year include Back to the Future, Commando, Rambo, The Goonies, Rocky IV and The Breakfast Club.

Back to the Future, The Goonies, and The Breakfast Club would all be ideal candidates.  Of course, whether the latter two qualify as epic is sure to be up for debate.

Harbour also appears to confirm Levy’s claims about season 3 being darker.  According to him “We’re experimenting a lot this season, and we’re taking risks, and I hope that they pay off but they are risks. We’re going into territories we’ve never been to before, and it’s exciting.”

These revelations come after Strangers Things impressive showing from the Emmy nominations announcement last Friday.
