First look at YouTube’s sci-fi series ‘Origin’ unveiled at San Diego Comic Con
The first trailer of the sleek new science fiction space drama ‘Origin’ from YouTube was unveiled at Comic-Con.
The trailer for Origin, which you can see below, details a world in which a planet has been found where people can go to leave their old lives behind. The diverse cast of characters each has a reason to flee Earth for the blank slate offered by the new planet.
But first, they have to get there, and that’s where the trouble lies. When the 11 passengers wake up, they find the crew has abandoned them on their spaceship. They are left to figure out what happened and what dangers wait for them.
The show was created, written, and executive produced by Mika Wika Watkins. According to Deadline, during the panel that followed the screening of the trailer, Watkins said that while Origin is a science fiction series it also has elements of many other genres, including Japanese mafia and German noir.

The series stars Tom Felton, best known as the Harry Potter movie series’ Draco Malfoy, as well as Natalia Tena, Sen Mitsuji, Nora Arnezeder, and Fraser James.
Paul W.S. Anderson (Event Horizon, Resident Evil) directed the show’s first two episodes. Anderson said that in addition to the main action on the spaceship, the series will consist of flashbacks to the characters’ backstories.
The concept sounds a lot like Lost, with the main story on the spaceship intercut with flashbacks to each characters’ life prior to fleeing Earth. Of course, Origin‘s use of space as the main story’s location could offer a fascinating twist on the device.
