The Sinner was a slightly surprising hit on USA Network last year, although, with names like Jessica Biel and Bill Pullman, it shouldn’t have been.

The good news is that it is also up on Netflix for anyone who might have missed it. With that said, now is a good time to catch up because The Sinner season 2 premiere is tonight on the USA Network.

For those who don’t know what to expect, here is everything you need to know.

The Sinner is a twisted mystery

Season one of The Sinner shook people up from the start. Basically, Jessica Biel portrays Cora, a young mother who goes to a beach and beats a man to death for no apparent reason.

Between flashbacks and an investigation by a detective named Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman). It isn’t a whodunnit, it is a “why did she do it?”

That is where the twists and turns made the reveal one of the most talked about of the year. The question now is whether or not The Sinner season 2 can match that level of suspense.

What is The Sinner season 2 about?

While season one was about a mother committing an unspeakable and horrifying murder, The Sinner season 2 goes the other way. As far as the first trailer shows, it is a child (Elisha Henig of Mr. Robot) who admits to poisoning and killing his parents.

While Jessica Biel is not returning (she is still a producer), Pullman is back as Harry is sucked into another terrifying mystery of what caused this child to commit the unthinkable sin — murdering his own parents.

Here is the synopsis of The Sinner season 2:

"“As Ambrose realises there’s nothing ordinary about the boy or where he came from, the investigation pulls him into the hidden darkness of his hometown. He’s pitted against those who’ll stop at nothing to protect its secrets — and a mysterious woman who proves to be a complicated, enigmatic piece to this haunting puzzle.”"

So, it sounds like while the first season really focused heavily on the suspect in Cora, The Sinner season 2 is going to really deliver a lot of time into the life and history of Harry Ambrose.

Also playing a major role is Carrie Coon (FargoLeftovers), who plays Vera — the leader of a small-town cult who has a lot of things that she wants to remain hidden during the investigation.

Also in the cast is Tracy Letts as Coons’ husband, Natalie Paul as a detective-in-training on the case, and Hannah Gross as her friend Marin.

Is The Sinner season 2 worth watching?

Season 1 of The Sinner picked up two Golden Globes nominations — Best Miniseries or Television Film and a Best Actress nom for Biel. From the early word, Carrie Coon might follow in Biel’s footsteps come awards time.
